For the past eight years, my friends Rebecca and Charles Dorris have been involved in helping orphans. They have adopted three daughters from China, and they also actively support an orphanage in China. New Hope Foundation cares for sick and physically disabled babies who have been abandoned. This orphanage was founded by Dr. Joyce and Robin Hill, a medical doctor and an engineer, who are spending their retirement years serving “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40).
This orphanage needs our help. They have only half of the operating cost needed for the month of May. Rebecca has written a letter about these needs, which can be read in the comment section. Please read her letter and prayerfully consider how you can help these sweet and sick babies in China.

The Dorris Family with Dr. Joyce and Robin Hill
May 7, 2009
Dear Friends, Family, Adoptive Parents and Supporters of New Hope in China,
Eight years ago this month, Charles and I met Dr. Joyce and Robin Hill in Nashville, Tennessee, when they brought two orphan babies for surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center. They came to town not knowing anyone personally and we were introduced because of our pending adoption from China.
They shared their decision to take early retirement from very successful careers in medicine and engineering to care for the orphans that needed extensive medical care. After hearing this Charles and I had to become involved in this work. Each time we have been to China to adopt, we have visited this amazing work in Beijing.
Five years ago, I started voluntarily coordinating supplies donated in the US for their work. To date over 300 suitcases have been sent to Beijing with people traveling for adoption, business or touring. Donors continue to be generous to provide much-needed items that cannot be purchased in China, and travelers continue to graciously carry an extra suitcase to Beijing.
New Hope Foundation (NHF) operates purely from donations made by people all over the world – individuals, churches and businesses – that have a heart for these orphan children in need of specialized medical attention. As the world economy has changed recently, donations to NHF have declined significantly, yet NHF cares for more children than ever. Normally three months operating expenses are in the bank. The first of May 2009 started with only two weeks operating cost in the bank which is about $30,000 US.
The work that started with a few babies in 2000 has grown rapidly through the years. Over 150 babies are cared for by over 200 staff at New Hope Foundation with locations in Beijing, Xinyang, Jiaozuo and Luoyang. For years Dr. Joyce and Robin helped fund the work with their personal savings. Monthly operating costs are now over $60,000 US per month. This does not include any surgeries required for the babies.
Dr. Joyce and Robin do not take any funds from the ministry for their personal support. This is the first time ever they have needed to make an appeal for NHF operating costs. I asked them if I might send a letter to people that care deeply about this ministry.
Many children that were treated for medical conditions at NHF have now been adopted and live all over the world with their forever families. Numerous orphan children are alive because of God’s will through NHF. Please consider the ones who are left behind.
On-going donations for operating costs for NHF provide medical care for 155 children residing in Beijing, Xinyang, Jiaozuo and Luoyang. In a few weeks Maria’s Big House of Hope will open in Luoyang and Show Hope will sponsor 45 children (with space available for a maximum of 128 children) under the care of New Hope Foundation staff.
It costs $83 US per hour to operate New Hope Foundation caring for children in four locations in China. Please consider how many hours of medical care you can provide for these babies in need.
Donations may be given online or by check. Go to http://www.hopefosterhome.com and then click on Donations. If donating on-line, be sure to note that the donation is for New Hope Foundation. If writing a check, make payable to “Show Hope” but indicate New Hope Foundation in the memo line of your check. Show Hope does not take a fee for handling NHF donations. 100% of the donation (less bank transfer charges) goes directly to help the children. To make a donation from other countries, click the appropriate link on the website.
Please lift this ministry in prayer. Tell others who want to be sure operating costs are covered for specialized care for orphans in China. How privileged we are to have the opportunity to help these precious children by supporting the mission of New Hope Foundation to heal them completely.
Blessings,
Rebecca Dorris

amazing. thanks for using your words!
I think this is a wonderful cause. I know times are tough but I also know compared to these children I don’t know the meaning of the word “tough.” Prayfully consider giving! I gave and I prayed!
