From the ends of the earth I call to you …
Psalm 61:2
My friend Mika lives in Japan with her husband and seven-year-old twin boys. Mika was my next-door neighbor for a year at Wheaton College. I was very sad when I heard about the earthquake in Japan, but then thinking about Mika and her family, my emotional involvement doubled. I was so thankful when I found out that Mika and her family were safe. I asked Mika to write a letter about what is happening in Japan and what we can do to help. Here is her letter:
This is absolutely devastating.
So many people died and are still missing.
It is probably about over 13000 people.
The scenes from the disaster area are hollific.
We are far away from the area, but still have series of
aftershocks following the main earthquake. It is scary.

The verse from Psalm 61 made me stop. His Word was a balm thousands of years ago as it is today. Thank you for that scripture–I just read the whole chapter. It is so fitting to the needs and cries of the Japanese people. Can you tell more about Mika–she’s Japanese?
Wow. I am so glad your friend and her family are ok. It is so sad and unbelievable what has occured in Japan. I do pray that God will use it for good.
The life here is OK. We have electricity, water and gas. But the whole amount of the electricy is not enough because of the
damage of the power plants. So, the rolling blakout is scheduled every day though it could be canceled. We had it in the evening of 24th while we were eating dinner. We prepared it in case, so it wasn’t too bad, but every day we feel we have to prepare it. That makes us feel tired.
We continue to have a sereis of aftershocks. Some of them are small and others are a bit big. We feel scared.
We also have the problems of the nuclear power plants. It is very dangerous and scary. I got the following prayer request from a friend of church. Please pray for that.
Pray for success at cooling the nuclear reactors. Today there will be a test if the electricity works at the reactors…the leader of the electricity restoration project is Mr. Naoshi Sato. He is a Christian. Pray that the Lord will give him supernatural wisdom and ideas even now and that they can fix it. Pray for his team.
Love,
Mika
Sara, Thank you for stopping by my blog. I’m always happy to find other bloggers who love the Lord.
Though the earth trembles and waters crash into the sea our hope is in the Lord (paraphrase from Psalm 34)
