My times are in your hands.

Psalm 31:15

What is it that you want the most right now?  When you want something so much it makes your heart ache, it is hard to be patient and trust God with the timing.  It is even harder to surrender it completely into God’s hands.

More than anything, Jesus’ disciples wanted Him to “restore the kingdom to Israel”  (Acts 1:6).  Israel, at this time, had been conquered by the Romans, and the Jewish people longed for freedom.  During the disciples’ last days together with Jesus, they thought that surely now, after they had waited so long, Jesus would finally do what THEY wanted Him to do.  They thought the timing was perfect for Him to be King.

Jesus told them, “You do not get to know the time.  Timing is the Father’s business.  What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit.  And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be my witnesses … to the ends of the world” (Acts 1:7-8 The Message).

Jesus was essentially saying, “You do not need to be worried about when you will receive what you want.  You need to be concerned about what I need you to do.”  It was not that He did not care about the disciples’ desires; He wanted them to change their focus.  Likewise, we are Jesus’ disciples today, and He has plans and goals for each one of us.  He wants us to trust He will fulfill His plans for our lives HIS time.

My friend Dianne asked me, “What are God’s goals for you for 2010?”  I would like to ask you the same question.  Please pray about this and take time to listen for God’s answers.

“Wait for God’s timing ….”  Oswald Chambers

my body

My soul thirsts for You,
My body longs for You…
Psalm 63:1

O God, you are my God,
       earnestly I seek you;
       my soul thirsts for you,
       my body longs for you,
       in a dry and weary land
       where there is no water.

I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and glory.

Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.

I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the night.

Because you are my helper,
I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.

My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 63:1-8

Nehemiah 2:18

.
Since September, I have been studying the Life of Moses with a lovely group of women.  Last Wednesday was our last day to be together, so we had a time of sharing.  It was a rich morning of feasting on the stories God has been writing in our lives.  Two women shared what they want the Lord to say to them when it comes time to be “gathered to their people”  (based on Deuteronomy 32:50).  Judy said she wants the Lord to say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”  Pat said she wants to hear, “She did as the Lord commanded.”

Both women talked about the legacy they want to leave behind.  We are all leaving a legacy, and as we live our story, we get to choose what that legacy will be…

I am reading the book To Be Told, by Dan Allender, Ph.D., and he highlights the importance of telling each other our stories.  The book jacket says, “By reading To Be Told, you will gain a clear sense of how God has written your life so far, and how God is leading you into the rest of your story.  God wants you to read your story from its beginning — every chapter, both the hope and the heartache.  He helps you understand the brokenness as well as the joy.”

But my people would not listen to me…

So I gave them over to their

Stubborn heart

To follow their own devices.

Psalm 81:11

This verse made me think about how often I am stubborn when God is whispering, “Let me hold your hand.”

We hold hands a lot in my family.  We hold hands for protection, comfort and love.  Occasionally, my children are stubborn and they do not want me to hold their hand.
They want to run ahead of me having their own ideas and plans.  It is difficult to hold a hand that does not want to be held!

Save us and help us with your right hand,
that those you love may be delivered.
Psalm 60:5

For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, “Do not fear; I will help you.”
Isaiah 41:13

You have made known to me the path of life;

my right hand

Yet I am always with you;
You hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.

Whom have I in heaven but you?
and being with you,
I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart…
Forever.
Psalm 73:23-36
