I have not departed from the commands of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth
More than my daily bread.

Job 23:12

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”  Please help me to not depart from Your commands.  Please help me to treasure the words of Your mouth more than anything else in my life.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Prayer from Psalm 19:14 and based on Job 23:12

For Rebecca.  The verse you gave me (Psalm 19:14) sits in my kitchen window as a “guard over my mouth.”

my lips

Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord.
Keep watch over the door of my lips.

Psalm 141:3

When I read this verse yesterday, the word that stood out to me was “door.”  I started thinking about the connection between doors and lips and wrote these thoughts in my journal.

Sometimes doors need to be opened and sometimes they need to be closed.  Doors can be welcoming to others or slammed in their faces.  I want the “door of my lips” to be gracious, welcoming to all.  I also want my door to be heavy, so it has to be opened with intention and thought.  What does the door of your lips look like?

So Jesus said again, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that I Myself am the Door for the sheep.  John 10:7 (Amplified Bible)

Look to the Lord
And His strength;
Seek His face always.
 Psalm 105:4

My friend Angela has taught me a lot about not complaining and trusting God to provide for my needs.  I wrote about her story on May 6, 2009.  She responded with an inspiring note.  Here is a quote:

“I have been learning to be a seeker of God’s face, (to know Him) and not a seeker of His hand (His provision).  When you are a seeker of God’s face His hand of provision is sure to come, in His perfect time and unexpected ways.  The waiting time is not always graceful for me, but I have learned that I cannot make things happen, no matter how earnestly I try…” Angela

Taste and See

Taste and See
that the
Lord is Good
Psalm 34:8

For the past 30 years my friend Jill and I have called each other on our birthdays.  We have been friends since we were 6 years old.  When I was 10 my family moved from Searcy, Arkansas to Boston, Massachusetts.  Sad to leave each other we started a tradition of birthday phone calls.  We have never missed a year.

In our conversation today, Jill shared how she recently spoke to a group of girls about Jesus and the five senses.
What did Jesus hear?
What did Jesus see?
What did Jesus smell like?
(Think “the aroma of Christ” 2 Corinthians 2:15)
What did Jesus taste?
Who did Jesus touch?

Please share your thoughts and verses that answer these questions.
